Wendy Davis became a national figure after she stood her ground on the floor of the Texas legislature for a record 12 hours as she filibustered one of the strictest anti-abortion laws in the nation. She laced up her running shoes and per the rules of the Texas senate, she continued speaking throughout her filibuster without any food, drink and no restroom breaks. She wasn’t even allowed to lean against a chair. But, she stood her ground until Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst ruled her out of order on some fuzzy procedural grounds.

In the meantime, Davis’ protest had gone viral nationally and supporters flooded the halls of the Texas legislature as a national audience tuned in to watch her historic protest. President Obama even tweeted in support of Davis, saying "Something special is happening in Austin tonight" with the #StandWithWendy hashtag.

Davis parlayed that action and attention into an unsuccessful run for Texas governor.

Now Davis is lacing up her famous running shoes once again and has announced she’s running for Congress. Check out her launch video below.
