Received this e-mail today from Wendy Davis (D. TX) on behalf of EMILY’s List in support of Rep. Donna Edwards’ (D. MD) U.S. Senate campaign:
Wendy Davis (D. TX)
My 13-hour filibuster against Texas Republicans' abortion ban, HB2, wasn't just to stop one bill.
The movement against HB2 began because we refused to let women who've had abortions be talking points for anti-choice Texas Republicans. It was time to put a face on abortion for the millions of women like me.
I'm supporting Donna Edwards' Senate campaign because she's the same way. Donna refuses to let women who struggle to get by, who rely on Planned Parenthood and struggle to put food on the table, to be talking points — because she was one of those women.
Our stories show that having women at the decision-making table matters. Women need Donna's voice in the Senate, and the Senate needs it too.
Right now, there isn't a single African American woman in the Senate. Think about how different the conversations about defunding Planned Parenthood and police brutality would be if Donna was there.
There's a saying that goes, "If you don't have a seat at the table, you're probably on the menu." Donna believes that if you don't have a seat at the table, you should bring a chair.
