Before we retired from teaching HS my wife kossack jakkalbessie and I spent most of our entire working life in Austin, TX. We traveled to 40 countries over the years but were always happy to come back to Austin. We even lived and taught in 78704, the 'Keep Austin Weird' zip code.
Occasionally I will see something that makes me long for the days before Austin's population exceeded that of San Francisco.
Like this push back of the Republican candidate for Gov:
Texas PoliticsBecause we are in a hurry to get this up and get over to WildEarth Guardians here in Santa Fe for our volunteer work gig, will leave it to you to check out the article.

While you are here though want to ask you to help turn Texas back blue.
You have probably heard of Wendy Davis for Gov by now. Yeah, yeah, I know, there are quite a few @ssholes here at DailyKos who like to show their regional prejudices any time Texas is mentioned , secede secede secede. Okay, got it. Wondering if you might put that aside and help out just this one time?
But right now is the best chance since Ann Richards for us to take back Texas. No joke.
Wendy Davis will break the status quo in Texas. Democrats will win statewide. So I am asking all good kossacks to help with that. Texas has such a huge population that it is critical we change the game there if we are going to change this country. Education, Choice, Marriage Freedom
Article today has Wendy talking about those issues. You can be sure here thoughts are a far cry from the Repub candidate.....
Davis stump speech: Education, education, education
Posted on October 5, 2014 | By Theodore Schleifer
“If we expect that we’re going to get something different out of Greg Abbott than we’ve seen out of the last 20 years of Republican administration that has shown a continued devaluation of our public education system, we’re fooling ourselves,” Davis said.
Davis has similarly chosen education as her signature issue on the airwaves, releasing an education-themed television spot Tuesday. Education may be an issue that can mobilize suburban women, a key demographic who could tip the scales if the election tightens. It is also an issue that tends to resonate with the Asian voters that Davis spoke to here Sunday.
The Democratic candidate who catapulted to national stardom on her advocacy for abortion rights did not mention the hot-button issue with this Asian-American demographic, which tends to be less supportive of abortion than other constituencies.GOTVIn response to an openly gay supporter who choked back tears as he said he felt like a “second-class citizen” in Texas and will have to travel to California to wed his partner, Davis said she thought Texas was ready for a “wake-up” call on gay marriage.
We turned 65 this year and won't be in Austin election time, so we filed an application to vote by mail. The restrictions have been relaxed if you are 65. Also found out about a cool Dem Party action :

Speaking of vote by mail ballots.... (14+ / 0-)Kossacks Unite to Help TX DemsI saw something that makes me feel more hopeful over at Juanita Jean's The World's Most Dangerous Beauty Salon Inc.
Last October, enough money was raised to create an online ballot by mail request program for the Texas Democratic Party.
More recently, money was raised to help pay for the mailing of ballot by mail applications.
This is so important because many elderly people are registered to vote (and have been doing so for years) but now they can't because many of them no longer have valid ID's or can't get to the polls. Anyone who is disabled or who is over 65 can vote by mail, and when you vote by mail, you don't need to provide ID.
Apparently the vote by mail program, is working
I want to give you an update but I don’t have all the numbers yet for the entire state. I can, however, give you some rough numbers for my own county. Four years ago, we had 400 people vote by mail. We have just passed 4,200 ballot by mail requests from people identified as Democrats. I am told that is happening all across Texas
(This is Fort Bend County - outside of Houston.)
One of the people who commented was Glenn Maxey himself
We send out all those applications and every one had a “help line” phone number on it. Well, I’m the helper. I’ve talked to thousands (no exaggeration) of seniors who needed assistance. Filled out another 750+ applications over the phone.
Best one yet:
Voter: I need an application to vote by mail.
Glen: Give me your name and address.
Voter: (Gives information) AND HURRY
Glen: We have plenty of time to get it done.
Voter: Not when you’re 103 years old like me. HURRY.by LoneStarMike on Sun Oct 05, 2014 at 07:14:06 PM MDT

You may not live in TX, you may not like Texas, but you may like the idea of brave Wendy Davis winning the Governor 's race and also pulling along other candidates.
If you can't help GOTV, could you at least support Dkos efforts if you have not already?
Yo!
Here's the link from the FP diary from yesterday:
